Speeding motorist stopped by the chief of Dubai's traffic police

DUBAI // As she rushed to get to work yesterday morning, probably the last thing RS expected was to be pulled over by the chief of Dubai’s traffic police.

RS, an Emirati in her 20s, was flagged down after Maj Gen Mohammed Hassan al Zafien spotted her driving erratically on Garhoud Bridge.

Gen al Zafien, the chief of the Dubai Police Traffic Department, said he spied the motorist weaving through traffic in her Lexus as he was conducting a routine patrol.

“The female driver was speeding down Garhoud Bridge heading towards the Emirates Road without paying attention to traffic or safety regulations” he said.

She was found to be speeding, illegally overtaking traffic, failing to comply with driving in the mandatory lanes, and public endangerment. “I had no option but to stop the driver before she caused an accident,” said Gen al Zafien.

When RS stopped her vehicle, Gen al Zafien was surprised to discover the motorist was a young woman – who had not renewed her registration or insurance since September 2009.
